This disorder is quite common among adults and younger adults. It is characterized with inability to maintain interpersonal relationships, extreme mood swings, and impulsiveness. People with this disorder may experience many episodes of depression, anxiety, and anger for a few hours to days.
Symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder:

Causes of Borderline Personality Disorder:
A cause behind borderline personality is difficult to identify but researchers find out which is given as Genetics, Brain Functioning and Environmental, Cultural and Social Factors.
Family plays an important role if parent or sibling has this disorder than chances of having the same disorder that is closer to them.
People with borderline personality disorder have a problem related to structure, and functioning because of this control impulse and regulate emotions. But this is not clear that they are risk factors for this or caused by the disorder.
ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL & CULTURAL FACTORS
Borderline personality disorder can also cause by Traumatic Life Event, Childhood Abandonment, Abuse and Adversity in Childhood and Hostile Conflict. Only these factors are not enough for the development of borderline personality disorder.
DIAGNOSIS AND THERAPY
Sometimes these types of disorders are difficult to identify and treat. But thanks to the doctors and psychotherapists the developing treatment and therapy with new research and evidence-based treatment help to reduce the severity of these symptoms.
Treatment should be given by specialized trained health provider otherwise its impacts on the treatment process. A licensed health care provider such as a psychologist and social worker who is trained in dealing with this type of patent will do a proper mental status examination and do an interview to design treatment. The psychologist will ask above any family history as well as discuss this symptoms. Borderline personality disorder sometimes co-occurs with other mental disorders such as anxiety, Bipolar, and depression. It overlaps with it and treatment difficult to treat.
Now coming to psychotherapy most common psychotherapy is used in treating BPD is dialectical behavioural therapy & Cognitive behavioural therapy. Let have some brief look at these therapies.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
This therapy is developed to treat borderline personality disorder. The main purpose of this therapy is to use the concept of mindfulness and acceptance or be aware of and attentive to deal with emotional state and current situation. It also helps in controlling intense emotions, Improves relationships and prevents in self- harming behaviour.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
This therapy is helpful in borderline personality disorder. It works basically on a core belief system. It changes the way patients behave and underlie perception about themselves & others. It improves the interacting problem with others. It works to reduce mood swings and suicidal behaviour.
Psychotherapy work well in the proper environment sometimes medication is also given to help to reduce the severity. Giving medication is not a primary priority. In some case severity is high then the patient is opting for inpatient and frequent hospitalization. Then medication is given for mood swings, anxiety, and other co-occurring disorder.
This therapy is given to only patients one to one but in some case group therapy is also used with family members or caregivers. This group inclusion helps to relative and caregiver to give emotional support and patience and understanding about the patient.
