But, Do you know In the History of the earliest period of human revolutionary Depression was considered as Spiritual (Demons) rather than medically treated let’s find out How.

History Of Depression:

The beginning of depression was started in the ancient period, where depression is considered as a spiritual thing rather than physical. The people believe that it is a Demon spirit that grew up inside the human being and it was treated by priests in the earliest. Till today Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks follow the culture of demon spirit and think that starving, beating, physical assault throws the demon out.

But by the time changes, Theories prove the Depression to be a theocratic condition but they still believe, the demon is the root cause of depression. And they regard them as a curse and anger of gods.

Later some of Hippocrates stated the fluids that cause depression was black bile(melancholy). However, philosophies and theories change over time through research and development because during the process of depression is a practical approach.

During the period of the 18th century to the 19th century, Doctors started believing that aggression is the main root cause of Depression. So they developed the technique where ” a person has to stay underwater for hours without drowning” some other factors like diet control, exercise, horse riding is the best way to cure depression.

In the 19th to 20th century the German psychiatrist Emil Kraepelin separated the schizophrenic from bipolar disorder. It categories the reason into three major parts:

  1. Phyco-Analyzation
  2. Behavioral
  3. Bio-logical & Medical

Electric Shocks were given to the patients in the hospitals for treating the brain wires. But these were totally unhealthy techniques, as it can send the person in the situation of COMA and there is never come back.

Now Therperies, Drugs, talking to your loved ones, and sharing feelings with them are considered as the best way of treating depression in the history of the period till now.

Although you may be surprised to know the fact that depression is common in Animals. For example, teens and adults are likely to fall under the category of depression due to the pressure of higher studies and getting a good mark. However, doctors are still struggling to find out the different types of depression that occur.

causes of depression

What are the Causes of Depression?

These are some of the factors by which depression can be traced in teens, men, women:

  1. Feeling Lonely
  2. Loss of Interest
  3. Sleeping Disorders
  4. Low Energy
  5. Feeling Guilty
  6. Angry
  7. Suicidal tendency
  8. Ability to not take decisions.

Let's discuss, in detail:

Family History

Checking family history is an important task because these illnesses can be inherited from our parents or grandparents i.e. it has a kind of genetic or inherited link. Negatives of depression are stored in the genes, so In some cases, genetic disorders of Depression have been seen.

In case your family was affected by these problems in past, you are more likely to get depression:

  1. ADHD/ADD
  2. Schizophrenia
  3. Dementia
  4. OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Behavior)
  5. And Depression.

Your Background & Current Situation

Maybe you are not happy with your current situation that includes:

  1. family issues i.e. stressful events
  2. lack of monetary credibility,
  3. disturbance in studies,
  4. stress, parents fighting,
  5. or negativity in the family e.g. changes in a relationship

Early Child Trauma

Early childhood trauma refers to bad experiences faced by a person during the early stages of his/her life. These experiences weaken the personality of an individual and decrease the level of confidence. And lack of confidence and feeling shy can take depression to its worst scenario.

These bad experiences of a child may include:

Mind Structure

There are two aspects of the mind Structure based on which depression can be concluded- Healthy structure of mind and unhealthy structure of mind. A healthy structure of mind reflects if you have a sharp mind due to your good aptitude skills, or best at problem-solving then there are very few chances of you developing depression.

Living in a healthy environment with positive vibes and proper planning of everything creates the brain healthy for life. An unhealthy structure of the mind means having low aptitude skills and not being able to make decisions with confidence. This type of brain structure is likely to catch Depression and last long for years.

Drug Use

More than 70% of alcoholics are more likely to fall under the category of depressive illness. Moreover taking medicines regularly can be very harmful and overdosage can terminate the brain cells completely that can take the depression to an extreme level.

Hormones & Chemicals

There are two types of hormones found in the human body- Males (XX) and Females(XY). And imbalances in these can create a deficiency in any part of the body. For example, in most cases, Males face Gynecomastia disease which happens due to imbalances in hormones that cause low testosterone.

The same as imbalances in hormones boost up the power of depression to the next stage. These hormonal imbalances happen due to an increase in consuming more chemical products like raw protein, steroids, eating too much junk, and smoking. Smoking contains nicotine which destroys the white and red blood cells which transfers blood from the body to the brain, this causes depression more fastly.

It can worse Cancer, Arthritis, and Cardiovascular diseases.

Uneven Thoughts: Depression is all about thinking When conditions happen depression and stress destroy the rational thinking process and stops half the functioning of the brain. MDD- Major Depressive Disorder is the main depression we know at the top-level stage. But on the PDD the depression is at its early age and a person may not be able to identify whether he is suffering it or not.

Double Depression the combination of MDD and PDD can be very harmful to the one who is suffering from it. It creates a new type of stage that damages the brain as a whole. It must be treated on time with the help of doctors and consultants with proper medication plans.

depression tests in India

Depression Tests in India:

Some of the tests which help in measuring the level of Depression are:

The Beck Depression Inventory:

The theory of beck's depression inventory was first created by Aaron T. Beck for measuring the level of Depression through Multiple Choice Questions. The sheet contains Multiple Choice Questions(MCQs) self-report inventory, It includes a psychometric test that helps in calculating depression.

Instead of talking to the patient regarding their thoughts, It calculated depression from its psychodynamic perspective. The beck depression theory has three part- BDI, BDI-1A, BDI-II.

In today’s current practice BDI-Ii is used for individuals who are above the age of 13. BDI-II measures symptoms of depression such as irritability, hopelessness, feeling guilty, physical or chest pain, weight loss, and losing interest in activities.

Actually, BDI was officially used for the development of CDI(Children’s Depression Inventory).

The Hamilton Depression Rating Scale:

The Hamilton Depression Rating Scale is also known as “The Hamilton rating scale of Depression“. Max Hamilton officially published the HAM-D scale in 1960. Nowadays it is a practice used clinically and dramatically.

It has a questionnaire that is normally designed for adults for measuring the severity of depression by analyzing the symptoms such as mood, guiltiness, insomnia, anxiety, weight loss, suicidal thoughts, or agitation.

The Hamilton Depression Rating scale was likely for the cure of insomnia(Sleeping Problem), hopelessness, uneven self-destructive thoughts, suicidal tendency, and other harmful actions.

However, the scale should not be used for the diagnostic treatment officially.

There are a total of 17 items that are why it is called HDRS-17, but 4 other types of questions are not added to the overall score which helps in giving additional clinical information. The scale has points from 3 to 5 for each item in the questionnaire. The total assessment should be done within 20 minutes.

The Zung Scale:

The Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale is another name of The Zung Scale. Zung scale is a self-report questionnaire that contains 20 items to measure depression via the symptoms- screening tool, phycological, somatic symptoms.

The total score on a Linkert scale ranges from 20-80 and each item has a scale from 1 to 4. It is predicted that most of the people with normal depression more often fall between 50 to 70. An overall score above 70 replicates serves depression. This scale can not be used for deeply clinical tests for diagnosis of depression. However, it helps in monitoring the sudden changes in Depression over a period of time.

The questionnaire contains both the positive and negative statements and you will have only 10 minutes to complete the whole.

Traditional Treatment of Depression

Depression can be treated in many ways by following the traditional methods:

Medication:

Medication is a clinical way of treating Depression for certain years. This treatment includes pharmacy medicines and drugs given under the guidance of a Doctor. The treatment cycle may vary from patient to patient depending upon the sessions or visits required for an individual.

The three major medications for treating depression available in India are:

  1. Antidepressants
  2. Antianxiety
  3. Antipsychotic Medications

Antidepressants:

Antidepressants have medication in their name Anti means No and Depressants refer to Depression. Antidepressants are medications used for controlling Depression that can be seen through its symptoms of anxiety disorder, dysthymia, mild chronic depression, and other major conditions.

The main function of antidepressants is to fix the level of brain chemicals which directly relate to the person’s behavior and mood.

There are five types of antidepressants:

  1. SNRIs
  2. SSRIs
  3. TCAs
  4. MAOIs
  5. NASSAs

Serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors:

SNRIs medication is used for treating major depressive disorder. SNRIs increase the level of serotonin & norepinephrine chemicals inside the brain to fix the problem of mood swings.

Selective Serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs):

SSRIs medication is a prescribed medication used for treating depression which has less impact on the brain. The SSRIs have the function of blocking the serotonin chemical through which brain cells recover fast and help in stabilizing mood.

It does not focus on other chemicals like neurotransmitters but has the job of blocking serotonin.

A recent study found that taking medications of SNRIs and SSRIs before the age of age has started experiencing suicidal thoughts.

Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs):

Tricyclic antidepressants mean three chemicals to control in medication. It is mainly used for treating depression, anxiety, and also helps in focusing on chronic pain.

Monoamine Oxidase inhibitors(MAOIs):

MAOIs were the first medication used before the SNRIs and SSRIs for depression. Incase SNRIs or SSRIs do not work at all then MAOIs are used for the treatment.

It has the function of controlling monoamine oxidase which is a brain enzyme that helps in breaking down the neurotransmitter. Such breakdown of serotonin gives control over the mood swings and give less anxiety. MAOIs have the special feature of better interaction with food and other medications easily.

Noradrenaline and specific serotoninergic antidepressants(NASSAs):

NASSAs have the main advantage of treating personality disorder, anxiety disorder, and depression as well.

Antianxiety:

Anxiety disorder leads to depression. When anxiogenic agents increase the level of anxiety then antianxiety (anxiolytic, anti-panic, or antianxiety agent) is used for treating the anxiety. This anxiety focuses on curing physiological and physical symptoms of depression. One of the effective antianxiety techniques is light therapy.

Do not confuse between antianxiety and minor tranquilizer, both are the same.

Antipsychotic Medications:

Antipsychotic Medications are usually made for bipolar disorder. Antipsychotics are generally for managing psychosis, schizophrenia, delusion, and other mental disorders. Nowadays it helps in stabilizing mood and behavior.

But Antipsychotic Medications have some side effects such as:

  1. Gynecomastia
  2. Weight Gain
  3. Involuntary Movement disorder
  4. Impotence
  5. Metabolic Syndrome
  6. Tardive Dyskinesia

Two generations have been formed for Antipsychotic Medications- First-Generation Antipsychotic and Second-Generation Antipsychotic. Both help in blocking receptors and controlling serotonin.

Psychotherapy (Talk Therapy)

Psychotherapy for depression or talk therapy plays one of the most important roles in treating Depression permanently. Talk Therapy includes talking to a Doctor/Friends/loved ones about your feelings, thoughts, and problems.

Psychotherapy is a widespread medication for treating depression illness patients because of its numerous advantages.

An average session on MyFitBrain takes about 30 to 45 minutes duration longer, via video call, phone call, or personal interaction. There are many online therapists available; you can consult them easily regarding their services and consultancy fees.

Psychotherapy has various types like cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, psychodynamic therapy, individual or family counseling.

  1. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: In this therapy, the therapist helps in dealing with the thoughts on how to react to particular situations at that time. It may give some homework assignment to do which includes some problem-solving techniques.
  2. Interpersonal therapy: It helps in focusing on practical issues and learning to identify unhealthy behaviors and takes actions accordingly.
  3. Psychodynamic: It is the traditional way of identifying depression. in this therapy, the patient and therapy examine the behavior pattern from where the problem started first in childhood
  4. Individual counseling: It includes a one-one session with the therapist, the therapist explains what is depression, a situation that gets worse due to depression, why we trigger quickly, and give a solution about it. He/She may tell you about adapting good habits such as taking medicine on time, sleeping properly, attending every session, maintaining good connections with friends and families.
  5. Family Counselling: If a person suffers from Depression then the whole family suffers. This therapy helps in explaining the depression to the family members and tells them about making coordination to deal with problems. It is one of the most effective techniques till now because it changes their complete lifestyle and habits of the whole family.

Light Therapy:

Light Therapy is used for treating seasonal affective disorder and depression. In light therapy, you have to sit near a portable lightbox that has normal beam lights reflect your face for 10 to 15 minutes twice a day. The beam is totally safe for our skin and body.

Seasonal Affective Disorder(SAD) refers to depression that occurs twice a year in each season spring and winter. In winter some people do not get much light then it causes Depression illness to them. Some are too sensitive to excessive light in summer.

To treat the sleeping disorder, insomnia, mood swings, and depression problems light therapy is used. If you are already on the medication of antidepressants then using Light therapy can boost up the effect of curing depression.

Keep a light therapy box 1-2 feet away from your face or hold in a hand at 45 degrees. Light therapy is also known as its two mother names- bright light therapy and phototherapy.

Note: Make sure that the Light Therapy Box should filter out UV rays and infrared rays because ultraviolet rays are very harmful to the skin and eyes.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a therapy used for treating depression, pain, and headaches. It is a traditional Chinese medicine where certain points on the body are pressed with the fingers or using an acupuncture machine. Some points of our body parts are connected to brain chemicals. And messaging such points increases the level of endorphins(natural painkillers). It stimulates the mind and goes away from the pain.

Such pressure continues the flow of energy known as “qi” in TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine). Because the theory says that if the flow of energy is blocked inside the body then it creates illness. And such illness can be shown through physical symptoms such as back pain, stress, depression, anxiety, emotional weakness, and other aches.

Acupuncture is the best way to regenerate your flow of energy which makes the mind healthy again with the body and inside organs. It is not a scientific method but a traditional treatment introduced by Chinese Medication. As you know our body is full of nerves with flowing blood and energy through meridians. However, sometimes these nerves get blocked. For unblocking the nerves acupuncture pressure techniques are used.

Meditation

Meditation is a spiritual and scientific process both for handling the situation of Depression. It helps in detoxing the negative thoughts from our souls. The meditation process is very easy to do. Get comfortable in your position as you like in a peaceful environment and close your eyes for 2 minutes in starting. Now focus on your deep breath like inhale and exhale. Slowly increase the timings of meditating day by day.

Once you get the perfect in analyzing the breath, shift to focus on your body. Now examine the body parts or pain that you feel the most and start thinking about visual exercise. It not only smoothens the mood but also heals the body internally.

To make your meditation therapy you can use a mantra or think about your loved ones. Also, meditation can be done everywhere you like walking, lying on the bed, etc.

Meditation does not remove the negative thoughts inside the mind, but it gives enough power to tackle the situation without being panicked and smooth. Meditation is the best way to boost up the thinking process and makes the muscles of the brain stronger than ever.

Once you start meditating, add this to your daily routine. If you have a problem learning in different aspects of Meditation you can take help from free online meditation therapy classes. Although you can also try Yoga classes for more physical and mental strength for curing depression.

Avoid Alcohol And Drugs:

Alcohol and Drugs are lethal for Depression. Drinking wine, beer, or any other alcohol damages the brain wires and internal parts of the human body like organs. Drugs like Ecstasy, cocaine, LSD, and overdose of the medicine have the same effect on the body.

If you are on antidepressants then taking alcohol and doing drugs can make depression and anxiety the worst scenario. Also, if you are using MAOIs then drinking at the same time creates the problem of high blood pressure.

In most cases, people try to hide their feelings and want to stop thinking about the same thing over and over again. So they take the help of alcohol and drugs, this gives them enjoyment for seconds but in the long term, it will harm them badly. These bad habits decrease the life expectancy of about 10 years.

A person with healthy lifestyle habits cannot be ill through Depression. As you know Depression is all about negative thoughts and thinking but a healthy environment always has a positive environment. A healthy lifestyle can be achieved through changing your habits and daily protocols.

The healthy habits for curing Depression are:

  1. Proper Sleep
  2. Eating Healthy
  3. Daily Exercise
  4. Clean Environment
  5. Opting in Environment
  6. Enjoying all activities and outing

Sleep:

Sleep is the most important factor for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Good sleep refreshes the mood and adds physical strength plus energy to the body all over the day. An average person requires 7-9 hours of sleep every day to keep himself healthy and safe. But sleeping on the right is the most important aspect for example- 11:00 Pm to 7:00 Pm is the best time to sleep, but do not overdo it.

Oversleeping causes dark circles and stops brain thinking and you will feel low energy all the time. Insomnia is the main symptom of depression where a person either sleeps too much or too little. Once you get a perfect nap almost 70% of Depression is already cured.

Fun facts: After learning something take a nap for minutes and the information will be permanently stored in your brain database.

Lack of sleep causes acne & pimples, hair fall, muscle loss, dull face, dark circles, dark complexion, etc.

Healthy Foods:

Once you start eating healthy foods you are free from your negative thoughts. Food produces energy that flows through the brain and keeps our energies to prevent the brain from bad thinking.

But, what does healthy food mean? It means Nutrition. Nutrition has five components:

  1. Protein
  2. Fats
  3. Vitamins
  4. Minerals
  5. Carbohydrates

Protein: Protein is the main source of food that builds muscles. To make yourself a healthy body weight of protein per gram is required.

Fats: Fat is as much as important as other nutrients. Here I am talking about healthy fats that we get from butter, ghee, eggs, milk, and other dairy products. Also, try to avoid junk food because they carry unsaturated fats which are bad for both physical and mental health.

Vitamins: There are different types of vitamins like Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin K, etc. All these can be achieved through Green vegetables, sunlight, fruits, and other healthy foods.

Sunlight is the main source of vitamin D(calcium) It keeps the bone healthy and a peaceful mind.

Minerals: minerals are found in water which is soluble in nature. You must be hydrated all the time to keep yourself free from uneven thinking. Drink gallons of water per day because our body is made up of 70% water. Never skip drinking water.

Carbohydrates: carbohydrate foods provide the main energy to the body to function properly. Chapatis, Rice, brown bread, oats, and other foods are rich in Carbohydrates.

Make a diet plan for yourself according to your body weight and height or you can take help from a dietician. Also, Focus on your calorie intake and eat food at the right time, and do not skip any meal for god sake.

Exercise:

Exercise is the best way to keep yourself busy. During the workout, sweating secrets toxins from our body and makes the skin healthy, and freshens the mind completely.

Only 90 minutes of intense or low training can be very beneficial for a healthy mind and good body.

Although you have running, skipping, and cardio to do. If you have no time for the gym then YOGA/stretching has the same effect as doing exercise.

But at the time of Depression, our mind and the physical body become so weak that 5 minutes of a workout look like a big task. Starting with two minutes and then increasing the time daily can be very effective overall.

A study has found that 85% of people have been cured through exercising daily.

Clean Environment:

A healthy clean environment always gives positive vibes which help in giving a peaceful environment. Cleaning your room often, removing dust, organizing your things in apple-pie-order not only keeps us busy from negative thoughts but also effective in releasing Depression.

Adding roof fresheners and fragrance stimulates the mood and boosts up the natural energy. Not only the place you live should be clean, but you have to focus on your personal hygiene as well.

Make yourself always groomed, clean facial hair, dress-up properly, use scents, wear nice cleanliness not only increases the level of confidence but helps in gaining respect from society.

Adding plants, trees, and gardening is the perfect way to show a greenery clean environment. A healthy green environment always leads to a better future.

Opting in Positive Environment:

You are still dealing with toxic friends, family members, or in a relationship, you need some break. This break means changing your environment from negative to positive.

People always get hurt by fake friends or mostly loved ones. So the excellent way to overcome this situation is to avoid them. Do not listen to them, always make a wise decision on their own and trust me you will be happy in the end.

Have a goal in your life: create mentors, not competitors. Stay calm because you have the unbelievable power of forgiveness and please don’t overthink about anything in life. Life is a little bit difficult for everyone but you have to cross the hurdles peacefully.

Going Out and Enjoying New Activities:

A little walk can throw out many negative thoughts which is a great way to deal with Depression. Trying new activities gives the mind feelings of challenge, through which the brain forgets all the bad memories and focuses all its energy on exploring new activities.

Traveling is a perfect example of forgetting about trash dreadful memories and creating new unforgettable memories again. Hangout with friends by partying on weekends play a group sport, talk with each other, and much more.

These things will work as a great therapy for Depression rather than taking any medications.

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT):

ECT Electroconvulsive Therapy is a process in which an electric current passes through the brain to make changes in brain chemicals to trigger brain seizures. Before ECT general anesthesia is given to the patient for safety purposes. ECT helps in recovering brain mental condition back to its normal i.e. it can be used for depression cure.

In the ETC (Electroconvulsive Therapy) process, a wired crown on the head of the patient is attached to the computer monitor(which shows brain readings), and side by side blood pressure meter, a heart rate meter for checking heartbeat, and a mouth guard is given to the patient preventing from any injury.

But before going for Electroconvulsive therapy you have to clear some exams like a physical exam(Medically fit or Not), Medical fluids will be given (IV insertion), you will be padded with electrode pads that are either unilateral (one side) or Bilateral (both side of Brian).

This method is used when the other medications do not affect at all in depression therapy or the process of medication is completed but still, the symptoms of sadness are showing.

ECT is best for curing depression, severe mania, catatonia, memory loss, and agitation but may have some side effects associated with it. A treatment of Electroconvulsive therapy without amnesia for depression may create permanent memory loss and bones related issues.

Back in the day electroconvulsive therapy was not much developed due to a lack of equipment and knowledge. But Nowadays ECT is completely changed, now there are qualified doctors with professional knowledge and proper tools.

ECT(Electroconvulsive Therapy) is much effective therapy than any other technique for treating Depression.

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS):

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation helps in targeting different parts of the brain cell that is recorded through magnetic pulses. This type of therapy is used to remove the sadness and mood swings from the mind.

In the process of rTMS, an electromagnetic coil is placed on the head of different parts of the brain. The electromagnetic coil generates magnetic pulses, and these pulses pass current in nerve cells of the brain.

Coils are placed on the specific area where the cells of mood swings and Depression are found. It is not painful at all but you will feel the sound of knocking. The whole therapy of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation takes about 60 to 90 minutes total and around 4-6 weeks.

When you are not ready for Electroconvulsive therapy or tired of doing antidepressant medications and still not feeling any changes, then rTMS therapy is used.

There are some side effects of rTMS that are:

  1. Empty Head Feeling
  2. Temporary Hearing Problem
  3. Little Bit Headaches

Difference Between Electroconvulsive(ECT) and Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS):

In ECT anesthesia is given in which the patient is unaware of his therapy on the other hand rTMS does not include any general anesthesia.

ECT passes current in different parts of the brain through electrodes but rTMS targets the specific parts because of its coil.

Note: rTMS therapy cost about ₹15,000-₹30,000 per treatment session in India. (Approx. price; According to MyFitBrain therapists)

Talk therapies explained in infographic

Talk Therapies:

It is said that there is a cause of every action, same as depression also has roots developed earlier. In Psycho-Dynamic Therapy the therapist allows you to talk freely and discuss every single moment of your life from childhood to the present age. It may ask frequent questions in between them and may ask for a reason for a moment you share.

For developing the scene therapist uses some coping techniques to help in remembering your past experiences. Because Doctors believe before you go for the relief you must do the root analysis of your pain. The Therapy session lasts longer for about 40 to 50 minutes.

People who hide their feelings like introverts can use group therapy for removing the thoughts from talking to strangers. It is a safe and healthy way to deal with Depression.

The therapist keeps an eye on each one of them 'perspectives and tries to give them certain ideas, although you have the right to ask questions during the whole session.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is a non-invasive technique that uses an electromagnetic field to target brain nerve cells to cure the symptoms of Depression.

An electric current is passed through the brain via the device electromagnetic induction to record the changes in brain cells. When these magnetic pulses repetitively transfer it is called repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS).

In the TMS session, an electromagnetic coil is placed on the left side of the scalp to record the nerves with a tapping sound that changes chemicals inside the brain. These magnetic pulses relieve the mood and depression without any pain.

The whole therapy takes about 40 minutes to record everything and makes changes with 1 minute of the gap at once. After the therapy patients feel normal headaches, slight discomfort, or tingling in the completely normal head.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy is used when other medications like antidepressants do not work at all in curing the symptoms of Depression. Before going for an rTMS or TMS session a physical Exam and psychiatric Evaluation are required to check if you are eligible for the therapy or not.

Vagus Nerve Stimulation

Vagus Nerve Stimulation is a therapy in which a pulse generator device is used to measure the pulse rate or Vagus Nerve and making changes in the brain chemicals to stimulate the moods.

Vagus Nerve is the longest nerve that connects from the brain to the chest passing through the throat. The Vagus Nerve is responsible for the symptoms of Depressions, feeling of touch, stress, etc.

In the Vagus Nerve Stimulation therapy, a pulse generator device attached to the chest using a wire under the skin, the generator makes changes in the continuous cycle due to the electric current. It shakes the nerves for some time to cure Depression. The whole session is completely safe and healthy.

VNS is just used for resetting the brain chemicals to the original. However, if you have any neurological problem or have a pregnancy then VNS is not recommended at all because it has some side effects like infection, chest pain, breathing issue, the problem in the vagus nerve.
