Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is also known as clinical depression. MDD is a term in which a person:

The Beck Depression Inventory:

The theory of beck's depression inventory was first created by Aaron T. Beck for measuring the level of Depression through Multiple Choice Questions. The sheet contains Multiple Choice Questions(MCQs) self-report inventory, It includes a psychometric test that helps in calculating depression.

Instead of talking to the patient regarding their thoughts, It calculated depression from its psychodynamic perspective. The beck depression theory has three part- BDI, BDI-1A, BDI-II.

In today’s current practice BDI-Ii is used for individuals who are above the age of 13. BDI-II measures symptoms of depression such as irritability, hopelessness, feeling guilty, physical or chest pain, weight loss, and losing interest in activities.

Actually, BDI was officially used for the development of CDI(Children’s Depression Inventory).

The Hamilton Depression Rating Scale:

The Hamilton Depression Rating Scale is also known as “The Hamilton rating scale of Depression“. Max Hamilton officially published the HAM-D scale in 1960. Nowadays it is a practice used clinically and dramatically.

It has a questionnaire that is normally designed for adults for measuring the severity of depression by analyzing the symptoms such as mood, guiltiness, insomnia, anxiety, weight loss, suicidal thoughts, or agitation.

The Hamilton Depression Rating scale was likely for the cure of insomnia(Sleeping Problem), hopelessness, uneven self-destructive thoughts, suicidal tendency, and other harmful actions.

However, the scale should not be used for the diagnostic treatment officially.

There are a total of 17 items that are why it is called HDRS-17, but 4 other types of questions are not added to the overall score which helps in giving additional clinical information. The scale has points from 3 to 5 for each item in the questionnaire. The total assessment should be done within 20 minutes.

The Zung Scale:

The Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale is another name of The Zung Scale. Zung scale is a self-report questionnaire that contains 20 items to measure depression via the symptoms- screening tool, phycological, somatic symptoms.

The total score on a Linkert scale ranges from 20-80 and each item has a scale from 1 to 4. It is predicted that most of the people with normal depression more often fall between 50 to 70. An overall score above 70 replicates serves depression. This scale can not be used for deeply clinical tests for diagnosis of depression. However, it helps in monitoring the sudden changes in Depression over a period of time.

Serotonin And Noradrenaline Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRIs):

SNRIs medication is used for treating major depressive disorder. SNRIs increase the level of serotonin & norepinephrine chemicals inside the brain to fix the problem of mood swings.

Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs):

SSRIs medication is a prescribed medication used for treating depression which has less impact on the brain. The SSRIs have the function of blocking the serotonin chemical through which brain cells recover fast and help in stabilizing mood.

It does not focus on other chemicals like neurotransmitters but has the job of blocking serotonin.

A recent study found that taking medications of SNRIs and SSRIs before the age of age has started experiencing suicidal thoughts.

Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs):

Tricyclic antidepressants mean three chemicals to control in medication. It is mainly used for treating depression, anxiety, and also helps in focusing on chronic pain.

Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs):

MAOIs were the first medication used before the SNRIs and SSRIs for depression. Incase SNRIs or SSRIs do not work at all then MAOIs are used for the treatment.

It has the function of controlling monoamine oxidase which is a brain enzyme that helps in breaking down the neurotransmitter. Such breakdown of serotonin gives control over the mood swings and give less anxiety. MAOIs have the special feature of better interaction with food and other medications easily.

Noradrenaline And Specific Serotoninergic Antidepressants (NASSAs):
